Australian Wins Tattersalls 2002 Tasman
Challenge
Sandown International Sunday 10th November. Andrew Robson
driving a 1972 Lola Formula 5000 won the eight lap Tattersalls Tasman
Challenge in a challenging field including 7 guest drivers from New
Zealand. Luck was with Andrew as in an event the previous day the car
was sidelined when a valve rocker snapped and mechanical excellence with a range of spares had the motor repaired for the main event the next day. The main NZ
challenger, Roger Williams ( 1971 GM1 McRae) unfortunately ran engine
bearings during Friday practice and did not compete.
Never-the- less, Andrew is to be congratulated on his skilled performance
and it was great to see an Australian Winner as the history of the
Tasman Championship shows a NZ domination.

Nereo Dizane features in “The AGE.”
The Drive section of Thursday’s Age regularly carries the Rearview
column by Kevin Norbury. On December 12 VHRR member and his Brabham BT
12 Indianapolis car filled the whole page with the storey of Nereo’s
facination with Sir Jack and his racing cars. Nereo recalled his meeting
with the world champion at Albert Park in 1958 which seeded his interest
in motor racing and the history and restoration of the BT 12. The article carried colour photos of the car at Indianapolis, a
close up of the beautiful restoration as well as the smiling and very
pleased owner.

COMPULSORY ACCREDITATION
The accreditation of officials working at CAMS authorised events is an
important component of CAMS risk management strategies. It has a bearing
on negotiations with insurance brokers ,at legal proceedings and
addresses CAMS duty of care to its many participants. It is planned to
have all officials accredited by 2005.
The club needs as many officials as possible.
A form will be sent with more information to all members with the next
newsletter. IF WE DON’T HAVE THE OFFICIALS WE CANNOT RUN
