Glen
Seton's 5th car.
It is the
complete car with original log book, not
a car rebuilt from a shell as is usually
the case because teams kept the
internals for their next car.
It was
built as an EF by Glenn Seton racing for
Bathurst 1994 using a lightweight EB
shell. It qualified on pole in 1'12",
but DNF the race due to tailshaft
failure. It was then driven by Alan
Jones in the 1995 touring car
championship and finished 2nd
at Bathurst with Alan Grice as
co-driver.
It was
last driven by Glen at the Brock Classic
(Calder twilight race, 1995) without
tobacco sponsorship. Barry Seton took
the car and pit gear during the split
with Glen in 1996 and then sold it to
Ray Hislop, who ran 6 touring car
rounds, 1 GP and 2 Bathursts before
selling it to me. I have completely
rebuilt the car including new pistons,
valves, springs and rockers in the
engine.
My intention was to run it as an EL2
(better aerodynamics) with Stone
Brothers spec engine (more power) but a
lack of sponsorship meant the car has
not run since the rebuild. The first
picture shows the car in EF form and
Seton non-tobacco spec. The third shows
the current EL2 form, resprayed in Seton
blue. It can be easily reverted to EF.
The last picture shows the stone
Brothers engine spec. The engine is
currently in Seton spec. as shown in the
second picture. The Stone Brothers
engine spec parts (distributor and inlet
system) are included as well as both
model body part sets. There are lots of
spare parts including 14 wheels, 6 crown
wheel and pinion sets of various
ratio's, a complete diff centre assy, 2
sets of brake discs, a radiator, 3 sets
of fibre glass body bits, 1 set of
bonnet, boot and doors, a clutch assy,
various springs, headlights and tail
lights etc. Also included is a set of
pit equipment that makes working on the
car easier even if not doing pit stops;
4 high torque rattle guns, high pressure
quick lift system, hoses, regulators,
pit boom and bottle restraint. 2 Fuel
churns, overflow bottle and overhead
fuel rig (required for more recent
events due to rule change). 2 brake
caliper spreaders.
All this for $130,000. It should
appreciate with time as the historic
value is realised.

I am seeking
any information AND photographs on
Ian WELLS’ Kenner Special. Ian had
(Rob?) KENNER build the Triumph twin
cylinder Tiger 110 /500 cc engined car
in the early 1960s. Ian raced the car a
few times in South Australia in the
500cc events. He also did some testing
with Gary COOPER for the Elfin Formula
Vee prototype at Mallala also in the
early 60s. Ian took the car to Salisbury
in South Australia and took the standing
1/4 Mile record on the 10th October 1965
with a time of 17.91 seconds. This
record still stands today as it was set
prior to 1983 the CAMS record cut off
point. Ian later sold the car to a bloke
in Sydney who wanted it for his
daughter, the car disappeared for years
and recently, apparently turned up with
the Crocker Special when Jim CROCKER
located his old car and bought it back
for restoration. Jim told Ian that he
had the remnants of the Kenner and that
he could have it if he wanted to. The
Kenner ended up in Ian’s garage until
David REID, David PALSTRA and myself
winkled it out of him and spirited it
away to David PALSTRA’s Service Centre
in Blackburn. The Kenner is now awaiting
it’s fate in the hands of the new
owner(s) and we need, (a) Photographs.
(b) Information. (c) Inspiration. Any
information, history, photographs,
snippets, rumours, innuendos etc would
be gratefully received. Regards, Paul

Photographs
We have now
changed from film to digital photography and can now
offer an economical way of getting a good photographic
record of you and your car in action. Instead of just a
few prints we are now offering a CD with all the photos
taken of you at each meeting.
Depending on the number of
shots taken, there will usually be at least ten, and up
to around twenty five high resolution images on each CD.
These images will be
free of copyright for personal and club us. This means
you can transfer them to your computer and print as you
wish, view them on your TV with a Jpeg CD/DVD player, or
take the disk to a processing lab to get your real
prints.
The images can be
freely published in club magazines provided Gary Hill or
Elgee Words and Pictures is acknowledged.
The price for this CD
service is $27.50 per car and driver, including postage.
At this price you will
understand that we cannot offer previews, although a
selection of low resolution photos can be seen online at
www.hillclimbracing.com.au <http://www.hillclimbracing.com.au/>
as well as more information about hill climbing in
Australia.
Those familiar with our
film prints will know the quality to expect as we still
use Canon professional equipment.
We can also still
supply professional enlargements. Please contact us for
prices

I am
trying to trace information on what I believe is a
historic race car which I have purchased from
Victoria, I was wondering if it is possible to put
it in the newsletter, with the hope that someone may
recognise it and know some of its history .
The
vehicle was purchased from Victoria and all we could
find out is that the fellow we purchased it from got
is when his uncle from Geelong passed away, the car
had been disassembled in his uncles garage for
roughly the last 20 years he recalls, When we
purchased it we were un aware of what it was derived
from, I have since established it is a early triumph
herald chassis and running gear which has had a
modified Goggomobil dart body placed onto it.
We
believe it has been a race car fro several reasons
there is a catch tank glassed into the body at the
front , all drain plugs have been lockwired the
brake pedal is set up with dual master cylinders
with bias it has had several sets of numbers and
never appears to have had blinkers fitted front or
rear .
Based on
the layers of paint I suggest the rear flares were
added at a later stage to the front
modifications. The original paintwork prior to the
flares appears to be a very good job there is also
painted scroll lines and what appears to be a crest
painted on the side under the top layer(I am going
to try to remove the top layer of paint which may
reveal more information, the top layer of paint is a
poor quality finish as are the flares.
As you
can see in the photos someone has cut doors into it
then refiberglassed them in however this appears to
have been a relative recent modification.
I have
also set up a webpage which was initially to try to
identify it however I will continue to update
it with any information which comes to hand
Thank
you - Norm Vesty

Hello,
I’m trying to track down some history on the 1962
Midget I have recently bought. I have been told that
it used to race in Victoria, and that it came from there
to Queensland in about 2001 without engine or gearbox.
As can be seen in the attached photos, the seat and
steering wheel were pretty tatty, suggesting it was
campaigned for quite some time so I’m sure someone will
recognise it and give me a lead. The car is now fully
rebuilt and competing in MG club events here in Qld. I’d
like to get the car log booked, hence my search for
history.
Perhaps
someone in VHRR may remember the car from race meetings
past. Could you please forward this message to any
likely source of info that you might have? Any leads at
all would be appreciated as the ‘previous owner chain’
reached a dead end (literally). I can provide higher
resolution photos if required.

Earlier this year I
purchased the Graham Gilbert built 1967 GWG Formula 3
I'd like to ask if any members have any original
photographs of this car in their collections as I have
only one. (ref pic) I'm asking if I could have copies or
scans of any of these that you may have.
The car was extensively raced in Victoria by Graham from
January 1968 to August 1969 then up until April 1970 by
the Terry Robertson Motors racing teams driver Stuart
Anderson.
The car was predominantly black with a green strip down
the side and raced as No.59 and 109 and painted Green
as No.58 post August 1969 with Terry Robertson
Motors racing team.

Elfin 620 Formula
Ford
I am restoring an Elfin 620 Formula Ford car which was driven
by Sir Jack Brabham at a 'Race Of Champions' event held at
Calder Park sometime in 1974. Sir Jack has confirmed that he
did drive in and won this event but I have not been able to
find any further information such as the date, photo's etc.
It is my intention to restore the car
to this period and photo's/descriptions would be particularly
useful. Unfortunately I do not have possession of CAMS log
books from that period but I believe the car was probably
predominately blue with some white at that time. The car was
originally purchased by Jack Brabham Ford p/l in 1973 and
driven by a Bob Beasley for a while. It was purchased by a G.
Hoogstraate in 1986 and raced at various circuits in Victoria
and SA. It changed hands again in 1989 to a G. Manion and was
raced at circuits including Amaroo, Bathurst and Winton. By
this stage I believe the car had been painted black with
yellow horizontal pin stripping. The last race number was 85.
The car will shortly be included as an
'associate' car on the West Australian Racing Museum's new
website - www.warm.org
