Group Q
This group provides for cars built between 1970 and 1977, specifically those vehicles (excluding F5000 and Formula V) that fit into the technology period that took advantage of slick tyres and aerodynamic aids such as wings.  This includes many sports cars, F2, F3, and Formula Ford open wheelers from a variety of manufacturers such as Elfin, Birana, March and Chevron.  Vehicles with ground effect bodywork are specifically excluded from this group.

These cars are light, agile, and very quick, often outperforming the more powerful but heavier F5000's.

Towards the latter part of the 70's, the F2 cars took over from the F5000's as Australia's premier category.
