We are at a point where the club needs to make decision if it stays with its name or changes to the Victorian Historic Regularity Register. In 1990 a group of people including me created the Castrol Classic which is now the Shannons Classic. We did this because we had basically Winton as our only track in Victoria. Now we are faced with the same situation. We are a racing club as our name implies and have racing cars that need tracks to run on.The event at Philip Island has grown and become a monster to control, and i can understand the race committees need to limit the number of cars attending. My own view is that cars which are NOT 5th category log book cars should only be INVITED if time permits.I have no problems with regularity cars that are racing type cars that also need a track or drivers with a condition that prohibits a racing licence being granted. One grid, of selected regularity cars would be satisfactory in my view, two grids is consuming valuble time.By the removal of a grid of 60+ reg cars it becomes a manageable 450 entries, not 500 +.The road registered cars have other opportunities that our racing type cars don't get.
The club talks frequently about where is the youth in historic racing,in one foul swoop they have cut out the two groups which holds most of these racers, thats a great way to keep the enthusiasm and comraderie between the members, this will create a divide and we don't need to do it.There is still time to resolve this,a number moves like move the pantechs out of the pit area to the lower grass area would help the congestion,we don't need four races.I BEG the race committee to review there decision, the proposed format will only create angst among the historic racing fraternity. After more than 20 years of supporting CAMS and the VHRR I am saddened that it has come to the point where such a large number of members are excluded from an event which was built substantially by their efforts in the past. To do this without any warning or consultation just makes it all the harder to swallow.
I belong to a golf club that lets me play 7 days a week, and a yacht club that lets me sail 7 days a week, and a car club that has 2 race meetings a year and won't let me run at one of them. Guess what I will be doing for the rest of the summer. |

You have a valid point racetek, I have money out in the shed that I won't get to use for 12months unless I travel and work committments make that very difficult for many of us.
I personally dont give a rats arse if they are encouraging overseas entries for the 2009 event, we have a full grid already, will there be 2 Formula ford grids in 2009? I doubt it. Who cares how many cars we get from the UK or USA this is a VHRR event, not the united nations of historic racing. It is a very sad state of affairs, do you have a tee off time booked, I will come asnd join you! Paul PS, A NC friend of mine already has his entry and a letter from the VHRR for PI, ![]() it seems it is all much easier with a roof!

Maybe I should weld a sheet of tin over the cockpit and some mudguards over the wheels of my open wheeler and tear up my C of D, this would make it a non 5th category sports sedan. Then I would get a run at P.I!!!

Guys, this is exactly what i was eluding to in my post,it is creating a divide in the groups,it's not the tin top brigades fault, this has been created by the race committee, they need to get there head around what historic race cars are about.

Can anybody explain to me why at Phillip Island we need to have 2 groups of Group N and 2 groups of Regularity when we can not fit in groups Q,R,FF.
If these groups were given 1 event each as all other groups are the progam would be fair and balanced! |
