Dear Competitor,

Re: The 24th Phillip Island Classic "Festival of Motorsport " - 8, 9 & 10 March 2013

VHRR, with the assistance of the Victorian Mini Club will again present the annual Phillip Island Classic "Festival of Motorsport" in 2013, to be held on the 8, 9 & 10 March. It is the 24th year that this event has been run & it is again the weekend before the Melbourne AGP. It is also the Moomba long weekend in Victoria. 2013 will again see us run a three day event, with official practice and qualifying to occur on Friday the 8th, which will allow us to run 2 races for each category on both Saturday and Sunday. This means that everyone will get more track time, and more racing and of course more value for money for you the competitor.

Our 2012 event was our last to be held under our existing agreement with Phillip Island Circuit, which has now expired. VHRR have now negotiated a new agreement which takes us forward until 2015. You may be aware that the circuit owner has committed to a complete resurface of the Phillip Island track, and this work will be undertaken in December 2012 and January 2013. The track will not be used until February 2013, and our event will be the 1st "Car" event to be held on the new surface. The cost of this work is significant at an estimated $3 Mil. Obviously this capital cost, and other costs that relate to improvements to the circuit since 2010 have had a bearing on what we must now pay to hire the circuit and its facilities for our event. The bottom line is that we must accept a 27% increase on the cost of hire above the cost in 2012. We have prepared our budget for the 2013 event, and have done our best to keep the cost to you the competitor as low as possible, however, the reality is that at least some of our increased costs must be passed on to both competitors and spectators. Therefore our fee structure for 2013 will be:

For all Race & Regularity competitors there will be a common entry fee of $580.00 per car, which will include Friday practice & Race or Regularity entry. (This is an increase of approx 7.5% on 2012). A Garage or Marquee space per car will cost $295.00 (We have been able to negotiate with our supplier to keep this cost the same as last year) The total combined entry fee is therefore $875.00 inc GST. (an increase of $40.00 on the 2012 fees)

Admission fees for spectators in 2013 will be: Friday $25.00, Saturday $30.00, Sunday $40.00, 3 day $85.00 and Saturday/Sunday combined $60.00. The usual concession of $5.00 for pensioners will be applicable. Event programs will remain at $5.00.

Again, as in recent years we will need to drop one category from the event. In 2013 it will be Grp N Under 3 Ltr that will not be invited. As you will be aware we drop categories on a rotational basis, as required, and at our sole discretion, and therefore every category can expect that they will only be dropped once in 10 or 11 years!

We are also pleased to advise that we have been able to negotiate with the circuit owner to allow camping at the circuit for the duration of our event. This is a new initiative, and we hope that it will be welcomed and utilized by some of our competitors. A camping booking form is attached together with a map of the circuit. ALL enquiries and bookings and fees will be handled by Phillip Island Circuit, and the Camping area will be will be totally managed by them. Full contact details are on the form.

Entry forms for the 2013 event will be sent to you in November 2012, and The Phillip Island Race Committee look forward to receipt of your entry to what promises to be another great Historic Motor Racing event at the Island.

Yours in Motorsport,
Ian Tate
