Default Arrows F1 - Peter Brennan

Arrows A1B-06

The Arrows Formula 1 team was established in November 1977 by a breakaway group of personnel from Don Nichols's Shadow team and some of their associates. The five founding members were Italian financier Franco Ambrosio (A), Alan Rees (R), Jackie Oliver (O), Dave Wass (W) and Tony Southgate (S). ARROWS.

The team set up in headquarters at Milton Keynes and built the first Arrows F1 car in just 53 days. Arrows signed up Riccardo Patrese (also from Shadow)
Ambrosio soon disappeared from the team, being jailed for financial irregularities in Italy. And there was further trouble when Shadow sued for copyright infringement, claiming that the Arrows FA/1 was a straight copy of the Shadow DN9. While the case was going on Patrese finished second at the Swedish GP. The team, knowing that it would lose the case and not be able to race the FA/1, decided to build a new car called the A1.This car first appeared at the Austrian Grand Prix 13th August 1978.

The A1-01 was completed in 52 days and appeared the day after the High Court in London banned the team from racing the FA/1.

The Warsteiner sponsorship continued in 1979 with Patrese being joined by Jochen Mass.

Wass and Southgate revised the A1 for 1979 and became known as an A1B.
The total cars built in 1978/79 was six .

This car was A1B-06 and last built was driven by Patrese in the,South African,USA,Spanish,Belgian and Monaco Grand prix of 1979.Best finish was 5th place at Belgian.

The Brennan family acquired A1B-06 in 2011, the car had been in a private collection in New Orleans and had been in storage for approx 30 years.

The car is now dismantled [April 2011] for component crack testing and re-building the Cosworth DFV. The engine is a long stroke 1977 version and is period correct for the car.

The build quality of the chassis is outstanding, all spacers, bushes, hubs and pedals are made from Titanium.

All the pivot joints i.e. rockers, A arms and shocker mounts are needle roller bearings.

I hope to have the car running again in 2012.

Default Magic moment

Great moment, awesome car to drive. Was like driving an Ralt RT4 on steroids.Looking forward to next outing.
Thankyou to Ian Tate and Michael Holloway for allowing me to take part in the meeting and doing their utmost to get the F1 cars out for the demo's with the time constraints they had. Cheers Peter
